The ancient town of Orchha with an exalted historical relevance is nestled on the banks of Betwa river in Madhya Pradesh. The small town is a treat to the eyes of every visitor who comes to explore it. It’s establishment dates back to the 16th century when it was founded by Bundela dynasty. Time seems to have frozen for this ancient site that beholds the scenic monuments till this day.
Only recently, Orchha made it to the Tentative-list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites and it might just secure a permanent position as one of them. Over the years, this archaeological gem has maintained a status of a unique historical site by attracting and astonishing tourists from across the globe. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had proposed that Orchha be recognized as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations and following that, the town was added in the tentative list. Orchha still needs another leg of approval to become one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
The initiative by ASI will not only boost India’s pride but also bring a hike in the country’s tourism industry by attracting a lot of travellers from overseas.
